Outpatient Mental Health Services at Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System: Why Choose Us?

Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System (SBHS) offers a broad range of outpatient mental health services for children, teens and adults.

Our outpatient services are flexible, evidence-based and designed to support ongoing progress. Staff adapt programming to what’s happening at home, in school or at work. We also offer special services that help you get more out of treatment. Whether you or your child needs structure, skill-building or space to talk things through, we’re here to help.

Core Outpatient Mental Health Services for Children and Teens

SBHS helps children and teens get mental health support in a way that fits their lives.

Our services include:

Partial hospitalization program (PHP)

Our partial hospitalization program offers a structured environment for addressing challenges with healthier coping methods. Along with group therapy, the schedule includes creative outlets like music and art. It’s a balanced option that provides intensive treatment while allowing children to go home at the end of the day.

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

The intensive outpatient program enables your child to attend their regular school in the mornings and receive intensive mental health treatment with us in the afternoon. This program is a good fit for young people transitioning from inpatient care or requiring more structured support than traditional therapy.

Traditional outpatient therapy

Children and adolescents meet individually with a licensed therapist to talk through challenges and build coping skills. Traditional outpatient therapy can address a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem or family issues. Therapists provide guidance to help your child apply what they learn in treatment to their daily life.

Group therapy

Outpatient weekly group therapy brings people together in guided sessions focused on managing specific challenges. Participants share experiences and learn from mental health professionals and peers. Group therapy topics may include grief and loss, anger management, emotional regulation, managing conflict and more.

Specialized Outpatient Mental Health Services for Adults, Teens and Children

Outpatient care at SBHS includes special options that make it easier to access treatment so you or your child receives much-needed care.

Offerings include:

Behavioral health support in assisted living facilities

SBHS clinicians provide on-site services for older adults living in nearby assisted living facilities. These visits help residents manage conditions like depression, anxiety or memory loss while reducing the need for hospital-based care. We tailor services to each person’s needs and work closely with staff to keep care consistent.

Medication management

Medication management involves assessing how psychiatric medications like mood stabilizers are working and whether changes might be helpful. On-site lab testing helps us check the effects of medications on blood sugar, cholesterol and other important health markers. These efforts enable us to adjust your prescription and dose in real time.

Psychiatric assessment services

We offer in-depth mental health assessments that help clarify a child’s or adolescent’s needs. Results can guide treatment planning and support requests for accommodations at school or home. These assessments provide helpful insights for families and clinicians involved in the child’s care.

Summer intensive outpatient program (IOP)

Our summer IOP offers children and teens a consistent source of mental health support during summer break. Through group therapy and guided activities, they explore topics like emotional awareness, communication and personal responsibility. It’s a flexible way to keep working toward their goals while school is out.

Tele-psychiatric services

Our tele‑psychiatric services help eligible patients stay connected to care via secure video or phone appointments. You or your child can undergo evaluations or medication management services without traveling to our facility. This option allows you to fit mental health services into your family’s life.
